Having taken early retirement due to post traumatic stress disorder caused in part by the events of 9/11, Karin focused on strengthening her family and community at that trying time. Finding that her retirement benefits were woefully less than promised, Karin started seeking ways to supplement her income while still being based primarily at home.
"The enjoyment of working with beautiful gems and precious metals and to see a completed jewelry piece is rewarding. I would like to see this educational macro enterprise program brought to Virginia." In addition to jewelry making, Karin volunteers as an advocate for people with mental disabilities in Southern Fairfax County and hopes to establish a Make Piece program in that area.
Karin now trains other women in the art of jewelry making. |
